ABOUT SHARON

Since I was a little girl growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I’ve been captivated by beautifully crafted objects and anything that sparkles. Hours would slip by as I tried on my mother’s jewelry, watching each piece glint in the sunlight. On Sundays, I’d grab the Chicago Tribune ad flyers, lie down on our shaggy '70s family room rug, and wishfully circle all my favorite jewelry. During countless trips to Sears with my dad, while he browsed hardware, I’d press my nose against the jewelry displays, enchanted by the treasures behind the glass. When I turned twelve, my mother took me to a jewelry shop and bought me a pearl ring set in gold, an overwhelming and cherished gift for a momentous birthday. In my early twenties, while exploring Paris in my first overseas adventure, I wandered into a charming antique shop where a lovely shopkeeper helped me purchase my first meaningful jewelry gift for myself - a delicate opal pendant encircled by tiny, sparkling garnets.

This love for beautifully created things was also marked by a life of creating —sewing, knitting, and writing stories. Over the years, I’ve created for myself and others, from poems published in my high school’s literary magazine to hand-sewn curtains and pillows and knit scarves and baby sweaters. My career in brand storytelling allowed me the amazing gift of travel, opening my heart and mind to the beauty of diverse cultures and the artisans who bring them to life.

One day, I realized it was time to follow the dream I’d carried for years - creating a boutique of beautifully curated jewelry and home decor, celebrating the artistry of independent designers alongside my textile creations. And so, George & Fred was born—a place where every piece is chosen with intention, inviting others to find treasures and build their unique home, lifestyles, and stories.

Welcome to George & Fred—a collection of beautiful finds to adorn your extraordinary world.
