Morris & Co. Decorative Large Box - Cray Design
Morris & Co. Decorative Large Box - Cray Design
A decorative box with a very big design legacy. The large 9" x 13" decorative box features the Cray pattern by William Morris, one of the most intricate floral designs produced by Morris & Co. Created in 1884, the Cray motif is known for its lush, winding stems and layered blooms - a richly detailed pattern that originally required 34 separate wood printing blocks to produce on fabric, making it one of Morris’s most complex designs.
Morris was a central figure in the Arts & Crafts movement, championing the idea that everyday objects should be both useful and beautiful. His nature-inspired patterns - filled with curling leaves, flowers, and organic movement - were designed to bring the spirit of the garden indoors. This small decorative box carries that same philosophy. Whether used to hold jewelry, small keepsakes, or simply displayed on a desk or bedside table, it brings a little piece of design history into daily life.
A beautiful place for small treasures and a timeless pattern that has been loved for well over a century.
