Dating to the early 20th century, this antique Half and Half / Buckingham Bright Cut Plug tobacco tin is a handsome relic of old American tobacco culture. Buckingham was produced by John J. Bagley & Co. and later became part of the Half and Half story, a blend that became known for its distinctive combination of tobacco and its “Cargo of Contentment” advertising.
The vintage graphics, aged finish and compact shape give it the feel of something discovered in an old desk drawer or tucked inside a gentleman’s travel case. The tin itself reads, “Half and Half rolls easily - makes a smooth, fragrant cigarette.”
Today, the cool kids have given these little vintage tins a new life - as compact holders for cash, cards, smoking paraphernalia, tiny treasures and other everyday essentials. Decorators love them for shelf interest for the typography, graphics and wonderfully nostalgic character.
