A little piece of old American advertising, in a very good tin.
This antique Velvet Pipe and Cigarette Tobacco tin is a charming bit of early American tobacco history, with its richly illustrated label, classic typography, and wonderfully compact shape. Made for Velvet tobacco, the tin was designed to hold both pipe and cigarette tobacco—and, like so many beautifully packaged things from another era, the tin itself has become the more interesting part.
There’s something particularly good about the old-fashioned graphics and slightly weathered finish. The kind of object that looks like it might have been tucked into an old desk drawer, a gentleman’s travel case or a shopkeeper’s counter a century ago.
Today, it makes a handsome little collectible on its own for shelf design as well as a cool place to keep cash, cards, smoking paraphernalia, keepsakes, and other small treasures.
