About Susan Anderson
A longtime Naperville resident and Midwest native, Susan has been immersed in creative pursuits since childhood. She began her career as a freelance graphic designer while raising three children, spending four years as the lettering artist for the legendary Dick Tracy comic strip. Her journey into fine art deepened at Chicago’s Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, where she honed her oil painting skills.
Inspired by travels and workshops around the world, including a pivotal trip to Provence, Susan developed a passion for painting en plein air (a French term meaning "in the open air") capturing landscapes, still lifes, and figures through the play of light and shadow. Her work reflects both discipline and discovery, blending technical mastery with a sense of immediacy that only direct observation provides.
Today, Susan splits her time between Fort Myers, Florida and summers in northern Wisconsin, but she continues to have strong ties to Naperville. These contrasting landscapes, along with her Midwest roots, continually fuel her creativity. She paints actively with plein air groups, exhibits in shows, and brings a lifetime of experience and curiosity to every canvas.
