Vintage Argus C3 Camera in Leather Case Circa early 1950s
Vintage Argus C3 Camera in Leather Case Circa early 1950s
The Argus C3 - often called “The Brick” - is one of the most recognizable cameras ever made. Introduced in 1939 by the Argus Camera Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it became one of the best-selling cameras in history, with over two million produced.
It earned its nickname - boxy, weighty, and incredibly durable. But that solidity is exactly what gives it presence. There’s nothing delicate about it. It was designed to be used, carried, and relied on. This vintage camera includes its original top grain cowhide case, which adds another layer - texture, patina, and that unmistakable worn-in feel that only gets better with time. The case itself was part of the experience: practical, protective, and handsome.
Technically, it’s a 35mm rangefinder camera with a fixed 50mm lens - simple by today’s standards, but groundbreaking for its time, making quality photography accessible to everyday people. Set it on a shelf, a desk, or layered into a collected space for some vintage cool when technology still felt human.
