The Crooksville China Company was an Ohio-based manufacturer in operation from 1902 until 1959. Founded by Guy E. Crooks, the company shipped its first products in 1903 and became known for its fine white ware and later, its decorated patterns that graced countless American tables. They produced what’s called semi-porcelain, also known as whiteware or ironstone in the U.S. - a durable, vitrified ceramic that looks like but isn’t translucent bone china. In 1927, Crooksville modernized production with tunnel kilns, keeping pace with industry innovation. Yet by the late 1950s, the business succumbed to increasing competition from inexpensive imports, closing its doors in 1959. Today, Crooksville pieces are cherished as a glimpse into the artistry and craftsmanship of America’s mid-century tableware.
