Wild Clay Yunomi White Slip Cup by Matt Fishman Pottery
Wild Clay Yunomi White Slip Cup by Matt Fishman Pottery
Hand-thrown and trimmed on the wheel, this cup is crafted from foraged Northern California clay and glaze materials—left minimally processed to honor their raw, natural character. A coarse, dark clay body forms the base, a white slip is applied after drying, and the cup is finished with a clear glaze of local feldspar and wood ash. The result is a luminous surface of whites and pale greys, kissed with soft pink “gohonde” flashes where fire, ash, and minerals interact. Approximately 3.5" tall, holds 8–10 oz. Microwave safe; hand wash recommended. A quiet, earthy piece grounded in place and tradition.
Based in Berkeley, California, Matt Fishman creates ceramics grounded in function, form, and a deep connection to place. A former chef, Matt brings a thoughtful, tactile sensibility to every piece, crafting vessels that are as purposeful as they are beautiful. Drawing inspiration from his Bay Area roots, he sources local clay and glaze materials, refining them through experimentation to produce work that is distinctly Californian in spirit and style.
