Hand-thrown and trimmed on the wheel by Matt Fishman Pottery, this Wild Clay Yunomi White Slip Planter with a ZZ plant is crafted from foraged Northern California clay and glaze materials, left minimally processed to honor their raw, natural character. A coarse, dark clay body forms the base, a white slip is applied after drying, and the cup is finished with a clear glaze of local feldspar and wood ash. The result is a luminous surface of whites and pale greys, kissed with soft pink “gohonde” flashes where fire, ash, and minerals interact. A quiet, earthy piece grounded in place and tradition.
Planted inside is a ZZ plant, loved for its glossy deep green leaves and effortless durability. It’s the kind of plant that quietly thrives without demanding much attention, bringing warmth and movement to a space year-round. Water sparingly - the ZZ plant prefers its soil to dry out completely between waterings, making it wonderfully low maintenance and ideal even for less-than-perfect plant owners.
Planter for now, in the future you can use it for sake, espresso, a bud vase...this gorgeous guy is multi-functional. Approximately 3.5" tall, holds 8–10 oz. if used as a cup in the future. Microwave safe; hand wash recommended. Each piece reflects the earthy palette and functional simplicity of Matt Fishman’s work. When you purchase something made by a ceramicist, you're not just getting something beautiful; you’re choosing to fill your home with meaning, story, and a little more soul.
