Established in 1943, the WASP program enlisted civilian women pilots to ferry aircraft, tow targets, and test new planes for the U.S. Army Air Forces - freeing male pilots for combat overseas. Collectively, these women flew more than 60 million miles across the United States, proving skill, courage, and determination in a field that had long excluded them.
